We’re delighted to present this new issue of the Japanese magazine Amirisu, for which we were lucky enough to collaborate. Inspired by the landscapes of Finland, the sea and the many forms that water can take in nature, this issue presents 12 refreshing and poetic knitting patterns that will make you want to knit for a summer.
Participating designers
Emily Greene / Fiona Alice / General Hogbuffer / Inese Sang / Karen Miller of Mrs Moon / Kitman Figueroa / Pope Vergara / Ronja Hakalehto / Sari Nordlund / Susanne Sommer / Veera Välimäki
This issue also features a craft City Guide to Helsinki, Finland: Helsinki has a strong knitting culture and a wonderful climate where you can wear hand-knits almost all year round. We share some of our favorite places in the city and talk with three Finland-based artists.
Plus, an interview with an artist who creates animals from fabric, a machine-quilting project, an introduction to international yarn festivals, and more!
Designer Fiona Alice has chosen to combine the Gilliatt colours ‘cypress’ and ‘fog’ to create the ‘Sivu’ jumper, which you’ll find among the 12 beautiful patterns in this magazine.
The body of this sweater is worked in pieces from the bottom up. The shoulders are shaped with Short Rows before they are seamed together using the Three-Needle Bind-Off method. The sleeves are also worked flat and then attached to the body. The collar is pick up and worked in the round. The sides are finished with mattress stitch, leaving a small split in either side at the hem.
The body is made up of a two colors to create a graphic rectangle pattern. The vertical lines are slipped every second row while the horizontal lines are one row of knitting. There is no need to carry the second color in behind the work. Individual pieces of yarn are used for each line, this creates a fabric that is not too bulky and comfortable to wear. The texture on the shoulders is Rosette Stitch.
