The beautiful “Momo Motte” by Trin Annelie in Gilliatt

We are delighted to gently welcome autumn by rediscovering the refined and delicate work of designer @trin_annelie!

Anne is releasing her new pattern, Momo Motte’, in Gilliatt today. You can find the French version on our website 🙂

Cosy yet spectacular with its pretty graphic and wavy pattern on the yoke, Momo Motte is the perfect companion for cool autumn days. The simple two-colour pattern and worsted yarn make it a great first project for venturing into the world of color work knitting, and it’s a relaxing knit that works up quickly!

CONSTRUCTION

The sweater is worked in the round from the top down, starting with the colorwork yoke. After the colorwork motif is completed, short rows are used to raise the back and improve the fit at the neckline. The yoke is finished with a few raglan rounds before separating for body and sleeves.

The body is worked in the round with a few extra (optional) short rows right above the hem, for those who prefer a slightly lower back.

Sleeves are also worked in the round with decreases.

TECHNIQUES USED AND SKILL LEVEL

This pattern is for beginners to intermediate knitters and skills required include Alternating cable cast-on, binding off, increasing and decreasing, knitting in the round and picking up stitches, colorwork, following a chart, German short rows.

Anne’s directions guide you through each step and include links to video or photo tutorials for specific techniques used as well as tips and notes on colorwork techniques and how to adjust this pattern to suit your own preferences.

HOW TO PICK YOUR SIZE

The « Momo Motte » sweater is available in 9 sizes corresponding to the final measurements:

Finished bust circumference: 85.5 (94.5, 105.5, 114.5, 125.5) (137, 145.5, 155.5, 167) cm/34¼ (37¾, 42¼, 45¾, 50¼) (54¾, 58¼, 62¼, 66¾)”.

It is recommended to choose a size with 10 cm/4″ – 20 cm/8″ positive ease to get a comfortable fit: however, you can choose a size that allows you to obtain the ease that suits you.

For example, if your chest measurement is 95 cm, you can choose:

  • the size 3  for a positive ease of 10.5 cm at the chest

or

  • the size 4 for a positive ease of 19.5 cm at the bust for a result identical to the version photographed.

The top-down construction allows you to easily adjust the length of the sleeves and lower body to your preference.

THE YARN

This pattern is designed for worsted weight yarn, resulting in a gauge of 18 m x 22 trs. The suggested needle size to achieve this gauge is 5.5 mm / US 9. Be sure to swatch carefully and try different needle sizes to achieve the correct tension.

The pattern includes a chart on a light background and a chart on a dark background to help you visualise different combinations. We have sampled several variations using Gilliatt, but also by combining Ulysse and Bérénice: knitting these two yarns together gives you the same gauge and creates a soft, fluffy fabric with a more urban and very feminine style.

To knit the version in Gilliatt, you will need:

3 (4, 4, 4, 5) (5, 5, 6, 6) balls of Gilliatt or approximately approx. 703 (770, 850, 905, 1010) (1130, 1220, 1335, 1418) m/769 (842, 930, 990, 1105) (1236, 1334, 1460, 1551) yd for the main color,
