We are delighted to share with you the new ‘Ussé’ design, created by designer Marianne Munier using our Ulysse yarn as part of her beautiful autumn collection inspired by castles.
‘Ussé’ is a pretty sweater with subtle retro charm, offering comfortable ease and dropped shoulders. It is adorned on the front with a delicate yet graphic plant-inspired motif, like vines climbing over stone. Ulysse brings softness, warmth and a subtle colour palette to create a charming little autumn sweater! For our version, we chose the iridescent blue-green ‘eucalyptus’ colour.
CONSTRUCTION
“Ussé” is knitted seamlessly from the bottom up. First, the body is knitted in the round, starting at the bottom edge, then increases are made to create the armholes before separating the back and front: the back is knitted in stockinette stitch and shaped by a series of German short rows, then placed on hold, and the front is knitted continuing the pattern up to the neckline.
The shoulders are assembled, then stitches are picked up around the entire armhole to knit the sleeves down to the cuffs. The sweater is finished with a small 1×1 ribbed collar.
TECHNIQUES USED AND SKILL LEVEL
This pattern is of medium difficulty and includes certain specific techniques such as working German short rows, picking up stitches, and working cables.
Yarn and yardage:
6, (6, 6, 7, 7), [7, 7, 8, 8], (9, 9, 10, 10) balls of De Rerum Natura Ulysse (French mérinos d’Arles and Portuguese black merino woolen spun in France, 202 yards (185 m) / 50 g) for sizes 34, (36, 38, 40, 42), 44, 46, 48, 50, (52, 54, 56, 58) or approx. 1090, (1140, 1190, 1240, 1290), 1350, 1410, 1480, 1540, (1720, 1780, 1850, 1920) yds ; 1000 (1040, 1090, 1130, 1180)[1230, 1290, 1350, 1410] (1570, 1630, 1690, 1760) m of yarn with corresponding gauge.
Our version is knitted in “eucalyptus” in size 42 and is worn by Céline with 21 cm of positive ease at the chest.
Marianne choose the colorway “quartz” for a version knitted in size 52.
