From Marianne’s “Grande Ourse” collection, here is our version of the beautiful ‘Alkaid’ in Gilliatt “amarante” 🙂
“Alkaid” is one of those cozy, generous, and comfortable sweaters that you love to slip on, knowing you’ll be very comfortable!
It is knitted seamlessly from top to bottom, with a beautifully open V-neck, an asymmetrical length at the back for a cozy fit, and a discreetly elegant pattern running down the front.
This wide asymmetrical cable pattern catches the light and adds a touch of originality to this cozy sweater, playing between modernity and tradition.
This is a project without any particular difficulties, with just enough detail to make you want to knit the next row and enjoy every cozy stitch of Gilliatt!
CONSTRUCTION
This pattern is knitted seamlessly from top to bottom: first back and forth across the front, sleeves, and back stitches with raglan increases, then joining the front at the neckline.
At the end of the yoke, the body is separated from the sleeves and the lower body is knitted in the round, continuing the cable pattern that runs down the center front. The front and back are then separated to create a longer border at the back.
The armhole stitches are then picked up to knit the sleeves in the round, and the garment is finished by picking up stitches along the neckline to knit the collar.
SKILL LEVEL
This pattern is of medium difficulty and includes certain specific techniques such as increases, cables and picking up stitches.
Yarn and yardage:
4 (5, 5, 5, 6) (6, 6, 6, 7) (7, 8, 8, 8) balls of De Rerum Natura Gilliatt (mérinos d’Arles and black merino from Portugal ; 250 m (202 yd)/100g) for sizes 34, (36, 38, 40, 42), 44, 46, 48, 50, (52, 54, 56, 58) or approx. 1090 (1170, 1250, 1320, 1400) (1490, 1570, 1660, 1750) (1850, 1950, 2050, 2140) in ; 1000 (1070, 1140, 1210, 1280) (1360, 1440, 1520, 1600) (1590, 1780, 1870, 1960) meters of yarn with corresponding gauge.
Our version is knitted in « amarante » in size 40 and is worn by Céline with a 17 cm of positive ease at the chest.
« Alkaid » by Marianne Munier is available in french and in english, in 13 sizes corresponding to a finished chest circumference of 95 to 155 cm (with a recommended positive ease of 15 cm).
