This fall, designer Marianne Munier @mar.gue.nee has prepared a pretty sweater/shawl duo featuring a soft, refined plant motif.
For these patterns, she has chosen our fingering yarn “Albertine”: a beautiful, soft, round worsted yarn that combines the elasticity and bulk of Arles merino with the drape and lightness of a touch of silk. The result is a yarn that brings out the best in special stitches by giving them texture, while still being comfortable to wear on sensitive skin. It is worked in different gauges: tightly knitted for the sweater, for a very neat, hard-wearing result, and slightly loose for the shawl, for a fluid, draping effect.
The Chamallow sweater is a beautiful, easy-to-wear classic with its modern boxy cut, fitted sleeves and scoop neckline just right. The pattern on the front gives it the perfect touch of sophistication to make it a special sweater you’re proud to wear (and knit!)!
CONSTRUCTION
This sweater is knitted seamlessly from the bottom up, with dropped shoulders and a round neckline. It features a leaf garland motif on the front only, created by combining crossed and slipped stitches on a garter stitch background.
The lower body is knitted in the round up to the armholes, then the front and back are worked flat separately. The slope of the armholes is obtained by a set of short rows, and the top of the shoulders is worked with a three needles bind-off. The sleeve stitches are then picked up along the armholes and worked in the round with regular decreases up to the wrist. Finally, the neckline stitches are picked up and worked in 1/1 rib.
Our sample is knitted in size 42 with 10 cm of positive ease at the chest in the colorway “belle étoile“.
TECHNIQUES AND SKILL LEVEL
This pattern features a number of technical elements, such as picking up stitches, short rows, a motif pattern and a three-needle bind-off. The leaf pattern is available in charts only. It does not require a cable needle and is easy to visualize, but will require attention.
HOW TO PICK YOUR SIZE
Finished chest circumference: 90, (94, 98, 102, 106), [111, 114, 120, 126], (132, 138, 144, 150) cm.
Sleeve circumference: 28, (29, 31, 32, 33), [35, 35, 36, 38], (40, 43, 44, 47) cm.

Once you’ve mastered the sweater pattern, why not go for a pretty matching shawl!
The Chamallow shawl is a symmetrical triangular shawl with the same plant motif as the sweater. Whether you’re in the mood for soft or more intense colors, it’s a pretty accessory to wrap around your neck!
It is knitted from the base to the tip, increasing on either side of the central stitch, with a slightly offset pattern for a pleasantly supple, enveloping effect.
You’ll find on Ravelry a lovely version knitted by Catherine in Albertine “libellule” with a variation of the motif that we really like: she has knitted only every other motif from row 90 onwards for a very delicate, airy effect.
