The cosy ‘Orgeat Sweater’ by Veera Välimäki in Ulysse and Bérénice!

We’re delighted to share with you the fruit of our new collaboration with the talented Veera Välimäki @veerarain!

The ‘Orgeat jumper’ is an invitation to relax and comfort, and the promise of cosy knitting moments to savour the soft association of Ulysse and Bérénice 🙂

Veera has come up with a pretty raglan jumper with a loose, relaxed silhouette, delicate details to keep it stylish, and a lovely, protective wrap-around collar.

“Orgeat sweater is one of those sweaters that will instantly become your everyday favorites. The simple raglan shaping, slightly higher funnel neck and relaxed fit make this sweater the perfect companion from hikes in the woods to late nights in the city.

Orgeat sweater is worked from top down in one piece, the back of the neck is shaped with short rows and the sizing has a modern feel in it. Little stylish details make it stand out from your other raglan sweaters.”

CONSTRUCTION

This sweater is knitted seamlessly from the collar, starting with a tubular cast-on. The neckline is shaped using short rows, then the sleeves are placed on hold and the lower body is knitted in the round with a hem finished with a tubular bind-off. The sleeve stitches are picked up and then knitted in the round.

TECHNIQUES USED AND SKILL LEVEL

This pattern is at an intermediate level and will require to know how to cast on with a Tubular cast-on and bind off with a Tubular Bind Off, increase and decrease, make short rows, knit in the round.

It contains links to video tutorials for the specific techniques used to make this pattern, such as increases, German short rows and tubular cast on and bind off.

HOW TO PICK YOUR SIZE

The « Orgeat Sweater » is available in 9 tailles corresponding to the following final measurements:

Finished chest circumference: 38 (42, 46, 50, 54) (58, 62, 66, 70)” / 95 (105, 115, 125, 135) (145, 155, 165,175) cm.

Total length (from hem to shoulder): 16″ / 40 cm.

To obtain an ample result like the one in the picture, we recommend choosing a size with a positive ease of 8-10” / 20 to 25 cm.

For example, if your chest circumference measures 36.25″ / 92 cm, you can choose a size 2 to get a positive ease of 9″ / 23 cm at the chest.

Her designs feature clean lines and delicate, refreshing details. She loves simple yet modern knitwear that is easy to knit and easy to wear, year after year.

Veera is a true expert at putting new jumpers on her needles, but can you really have too many? She’s a big fan of garter stitch and short rows in all their variations.

Veera is the author of two books published in Finland, but most of her personal work is available as self-publishing. The Interpretations book series she created with her friend Joji Locatelli is now in its tenth volume.

She has also created several patterns in our yarns, including the Sticky Toffee cardigan, the Super Moon or the Aino cardigan (presented in the book Stripes) in Gilliatt, and the Ilta or Sypressi sweaters in Cyrano.
