Marianne Munier’s cozy “Sarlat” cardigan in Ulysse and Berenice!

For our new yarn Bérénice, designer Marianne Munier has come up with a series of soft, delicate patterns, of which we are delighted to present the firstborn today!

“Sarlat” is a versatile, feminine cardigan with a pretty lace pattern that delicately accentuates the raglan armholes, and comes with numerous options that let you choose the version that will be most useful in your wardrobe, or to realize several of them!

It is knitted by combining our sport carded yarn Ulysse with the cloudy Bérénice to create a light, fluffy and deliciously comfortable blend. You can combine the two yarns tone-on-tone or with a more or less mottled effect to obtain rich, subtle colors.

CONSTRUCTION

This design is knit in one seamless piece from top to bottom: first in back and forth for the yoke and lower body, then in the round for the sleeves. The version with a round neckline is worked with a series of short rows. The V-neckline is worked with a series of increases along the neckline edge. For both versions, increases are placed on either side of the raglan pattern.

After the sleeves have been knitted in the round, the border stitches are then piked up and knitted in 1/1 ribbing, with buttonholes placed at regular intervals.

SKILL LEVEL

This design includes some somewhat technical features, such as lace work, short rows for the round-neck version, knitting with two yarns together and working in the round on a small diameter for the sleeves.

The pattern is very easy to memorize, however, and most of the work is done in stockinette stitch in a classic construction. This project will present no difficulty if you have a little experience, and will be suitable for a “false” beginner level with a little attention. If you’re more experienced, it could be an excellent candidate for knitting in front of a good movie 🙂

For our sample, we opted for the short V-neck version with standard-length sleeves. It’s knitted in size 40 with 20 cm of positive ease at the chest (the recommended ease is 10 cm, but I really like this slightly looser version) in a fluffy powder pink that combines Ulysse “quartz” with Bérénice “tutu”.

Marianne has knitted a beautiful version with a V-neckline and standard length in size 50 in a pretty light beige created by the combination of Ulysse “poivre blanc” and Bérénice “orgeat”.

Pattern: « Sarlat » by Marianne Munier, available in french and english on Ravelry in sizes 34 to 58 (13 sizes)

Marianne has created an adorable children’s version of this pattern, also available on Ravelry 🙂

Yarn: Ulysse (100% Arles Merino and black Portuguese merino woolen spun, 185 m / 50 g) from 4 to 9 skeins depending on the size and options, held with avec Bérénice (55% super kid mohair, 25% silk, 20% organic Arles merino; 210 m / 25 g) from 4 to 8 skeins depending on the size and options.

You’ll find more ideas for combining Berenice with our carded yarns in this blog post.

Thank you Marianne for this design full of delicacy and softness and thank you Audrey for this beautiful realization 🙂

I hope this pattern inspires you to create some cozy projects this winter!
