“When day comes to the end the night falls. Slowly the setting sun takes all the colors away, until only darkness remain. But sometimes you can still see that little shade of color left behind. It’s not black, it’s something else too.” Veera Välimäki
We’re delighted to share this new collaboration with Finnish designer Veera Välimäki! For this beautiful, generous and simple pattern, Veera chose our Cyrano yarn with its comforting roundness.
Ilta is a jumper that’s quick to knit with large needles and very satisfying! Its stripes invite us to play with colours while giving rhythm to the knitting, and its seamless construction is simple, effective and ingenious. A real holiday jumper to enjoy on a summer’s evening, and one that will wrap us up happily come autumn!
CONSTRUCTION
Ilta sweater is worked from the top down, shoulders are shaped with short rows for a good fit. The generous sizing makes this sweater lovely to wear.
TECHNIQUES USED AND LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY
This pattern is at an intermediate level and will require the ability to cast on and cast off, increase and decrease, knit in the round (and on small diameters), to realize Wrap and Turn short rows and tubular cast-off.
The pattern includes links to videos for Longtail cast-on and Tubular cast-off.
HOW TO PICK YOUR SIZE
“Ilta” is available in 9 sizes corresponding to the following final measurements:
Chest size: 100 (110, 120, 130, 140) (150, 160, 170) cm
To obtain a slightly oversized result like the one pictured, we recommend choosing a size with a positive ease of 15 to 25 cm.
For example, if your bust measurement is 95 cm, you could choose :
- a size 2 for a 15 cm bust ease
or
- a size 3 for a 25 cm bust ease.
Pattern: «Ilta » by Veera Välimäki available in French and English on our website (sizes 1 to 9) and in English on Ravelry.
Yarn: Cyrano (French Merino from Arles and Black Portuguese Merino, 250 m / 100 g) shown in colorways tempête for main color (4 to 9 balls) and poivre blanc for contrasting color (1 to 3 balls).
For her design, Veera has chosen the beautiful combination of ‘tempête’ and ‘poivre blanc’. We’ve sampled a few other suggestions to help you imagine your favourite “Ilta”!
Cyrano CP “eucalyptus” / CC “biche“
Cyrano CP “poivre blanc” / CC “nuit“
Cyrano CP “quartz” / CC “bois de rose”
For a slightly fresher version, we also tested some stripe combinations with our Robinson yarn (70% organic Arles merino / 30% recycled cotton) in doubles. The result is a little thicker (more like 13 m to 10 cm with 6 mm needles) but the colours and texture are very tempting and will perhaps inspire the most adventurous!
Robinson CP : “grand bleu” / CC “pêche melba“
Robinson CP : “nougat” / CC “sucre glace“
