We’re delighted to share this new collaboration with talented designer Weichien Chan @thepetiteknitter, who’s brought some Arctic flakes to these last days of December!
Weichien lives in northern Canada near the Arctic Circle and this pattern is inspired by the first snowflakes that fall on dried flowers at the change of season. The ‘Snofleur’ jumper invites us to observe the ephemeral and fragile spectacle of nature in perpetual change, and the delicate beauty of moments of transition.
‘Snofleur’ is a simple, graceful jumper that can be knitted into a light, warm, easy-to-wear Ulysse jumper! The graphic play of colours between the yoke and the bottom of the body brought together by the snowflake motif means you can have fun with the colour palette and imagine a multitude of combinations.
CONSTRUCTION
The ‘Snofleur’ jumper is knitted seamlessly from top to bottom, starting at the neckline. After the collar edge has been made in 1×1 ribbing, the neckline is slightly hollowed out using short rows. The yoke is then knitted, starting with evenly spaced, rounded increases, followed by the colourwork section according to the chart. The body and sleeves are then separated: the sleeve stitches are put on hold to knit the rest of the body. Once the lower body is finished, the sleeves are knitted from top to bottom in the round.
TECHNIQUES USED AND SKILL LEVEL
This pattern is at a slightly advanced beginner to intermediate level and will require you to know how to increase and decrease, knit in the round, knit short rows, knit colourwork with two different colours and follow a chart. It can be a good first colourwork project if you have already knitted a jumper in the round with increases and are familiar with short rows and chart reading.
HOW TO PICK YOUR SIZE
The « Snofleur » sweater is available in 10 sizes corresponding to the following final measurements:
Finished chest circumference : 79 (89, 98, 105) 118, 130 [137, 150, 158] 168 cm / 31 (34.75, 38.5, 41.5) 46.15, 51 [53.75, 59, 62] 66 inches

There are also two sleeve length options, bracelet length and full length, so you can customize the jumper to fit you best.
Sleeve length:
Bracelet version: 46 (47, 47, 48.5) 48.5, 49.5 [49.5, 51, 51] 51 cm / 18 (18½, 18½, 19) 19, 19½ [19½, 20, 20] 20 inches

The pattern is designed to be worn with a positive ease of 7.5cm / 3” to 13cm / 5” at the chest: to choose your size, add 7.5cm / 3” to 13cm / 5” to your bust measurement and choose the size of the pattern that is closest to it.
For example, with a 90 cm / 35.5″ chest, you could choose to knit the third size with 8 cm / 3.15″ of ease for a slightly fitted result, or the fourth size with 15 cm / 5.9″ of ease for a more relaxed result.
