The utterly charming “BonBon cardi” by Korean designer @miir_knits is now available in 8 sizes and in French 🙂
Many of you had admired this very cute lace cardigan knitted in Candide, and we’ve translated this new version of the pattern so French knitters can enjoy it this summer!
The “BonBon Cardi” is a short-sleeved cardigan with a classic look, but with a slightly cropped cut that gives it a modern twist. It is knitted seamlessly in the round from the top of the shoulders, and each step is accompanied by charts to help you follow the pattern.
Its special charm comes in particular from its delicate scalloped edges and its pretty, romantic lace pattern, whilst remaining simple to knit.

CONSTRUCTION
It is knitted from top to bottom and finished with a scalloped edge: the back is knitted first, then stitches are picked up along the shoulders to knit the fronts.
Once the increases for the armholes are complete, the fronts and back are joined to form the body.
The sleeve stitches are picked up around the armhole and shaped using short rows.

TECHNIQUES USED AND SKILL LEVEL
This pattern is at an intermediate level and skills required for this pattern include German short rows, knitting in the round, knitting lace, reading a chart, increases (m1L/p, m1R/p), decreases (ssk, k2tog and CDD), scalloped edge.
Link to video tutorial is provided for knitting the scalloped edge.

HOW TO PICK YOUR SIZE
The pattern comes in 8 sizes corresponding to the following final measurements:
Chest circumference: 90 (95) 100 (103) 113 (125) 138 (150) cm
Total length: 50 (50) 52 (52) 53 (53) 55 (55) cm
Armhole depth: 18 (18) 18 (21) 22 (22) 26 (26) cm
Sleeve length: 20 (20) 20 (21) 21 (23) 23 (23) cm
This pattern is designed to be worn with a slight positive ease of 10 to 15 cm. If you wish to achieve a fit similar to the samples pictured, you should choose a size that is 10–15 cm larger than your actual chest measurement.

GAUGE AND YARN CHOICE
Candide is knitted here at a 23 sts x 35 rows = 10 x 10 cm gauge.
To knit this pattern, you will need: 4 (5) 5 (5) 6 (7) 7 (8) pelotes of Candide by De Rerum Natura (70% organic Merino d’Arles, 28% recycled cotton, 2% other recycled fibres, 202 yds / 185 m – 50 g)
OR approx. 740 (925) 925 (925) 1110 (1295) 1295 (1480) m de fil de type « Sport ».
Our Candide yarn has the same technical specifications as Ulysse: it is a 185 m / 50 g 2-ply yarn.

The presence of cotton in its composition makes it slightly softer, cooler to the touch and more compact than its pure-wool counterpart. The tiny cotton flecks lend it a unique texture and create a mottled effect, which varies in intensity depending on the colour. It is a rather dry yarn which, like many carded yarns, becomes softer and fluffier once washed.
We particularly like it in textured stitches, but it also lends a very appealing, natural and relaxed touch to stockinette and garter stitch, and gives lace patterns a lovely, slightly raw look.
It can be used for a wide range of patterns written for fingering or sport-weight yarns, with a gauge of 26 to 22 stitches per 10 cm.
This is the ideal yarn for delicate, fine mid-season projects that will benefit from the lightness of wool and the coolness of cotton.
To create its colour palette, some of the wool is dyed using natural plant extracts (indigo, chestnut, reseda, madder and cochineal) selected for their shade and colourfastness. The dyed and undyed fibres are then blended to create the colour range according to the chosen combinations and woollen-spun.
The range includes two undyed colours: the ecru ‘sucre glace’ shade and the ‘nougat’ shade, which is a blend of 60% ecru Arles merino, 10% black French merino and 30% recycled cotton.
This yarn was dyed and spun in France, in the Tarn region, by companies holding the ‘Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant’ (Living Heritage Company) label.
Jung Sun chose the natural “sucre glace” shade for her sample. Here are some other colour ideas from the Candide palette, shown in the BonBon Cardi pattern:
