“Moonflower” by Jessica McDonald in Antigone

Simple, elegant and breathable, here’s a lovely little top that’s perfect for knitting as a relaxing project and for wearing all summer long!

We’re delighted to share with you this new pattern by designer Jessica McDonald @jessicamknits, created for Antigone. Moonflower is knitted in the round from top to bottom with lovely dropped shoulders shaped using short rows, a deep V-neck that’s just the right depth to be flattering, and a comfortable fit enhanced by the fluid drape of the linen.

CONSTRUCTION

Moonflower is knitted in the round, from top to bottom: it starts by knitting the back of the yoke flat, then the shoulders are shaped using German short rows. Stitches are then picked up from the shoulders and the two fronts are knitted separately with a series of increases to shape the neckline. The fronts and back are joined, and the rest of the body is knitted in the round until the hem.

The stitches for the sleeves and collar are also picked up from the body, and knitted in the round.

TECHNIQUES USED AND SKILL LEVEL

This pattern is at an intermediate level and skills required for this pattern include German short rows, knit in the round, increases (m1L, m1R), decreases (ssk & k2tog).

Links to video tutorials are provided for special techniques used, including Cable Cast-on and Picking-up stitches for a neckline.
